Thomas A. Burkhart is originally from Western Pennsylvania, and grew up in Mercer, PA, the county seat of Mercer County. Tom graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and History. He received his law degree from the Ohio Northern University Claude W. Pettit College of Law in 2010. While in law school, Tom received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for having achieved the highest graded scores in Civil Procedure and in Jurisprudence. Tom also served as the Presiding Judge for the Moot Court Executive Board and was the trial team coach for the Burke E. Smith Trial Advocacy Team. 

After graduating from law school, Tom practiced law in Mercer County where he practiced in the areas of social security, personal injury, criminal defense, commercial and general civil litigation. Tom was nominated for the Sharon Herald “Best of the Best” for Attorney/Legal Services in 2012, 2015, and 2017. 

Tom and his wife Amanda moved to Central Pennsylvania after Amanda accepted a position as Assistant District Attorney for Centre County.  After moving to Central Pennsylvania, Tom worked as an attorney with Centre Safe, where he represented claimants in Title IX proceedings at Penn State University. Tom has also served as an Assistant District Attorney in Lycoming County and Blair County, where he prosecuted felony and misdemeanor level crimes, including violent crimes, drug offenses, and DUI.

Tom is admitted to practice before the state courts of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, U.S. District Court’s for the Middle and Western Districts of Pennsylvania, and the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
